What's Up?

Ok, here is a pile of Zibby's hair. I (Brooks) brushed him for a half an hour and that is what I got off. The thing is, I could have kept going!!
The rest are a bunch of pictures that we took on our trip to Logan. Bonny's brother got married, and it was really fun to be there and see them. While in Utah Bonny got a hair cut, isn't it cute. I didn't think that I would like it at first, but I was wrong, I love it! There are some more pictures of the wedding, one of them is a picture of Bonny's grandfather and I shootin' the breeze.
We also got to hang out with my sister Tara, and their new baby Siena. It was great to be home, but I am glad we are home, and I am back in school.

G-Diapers

This is weird but today I was bouncing around between blogs and landed on a blog of apregnant woman in California. She was talking about alternatives to disposable diapers...she's environmentally friendly. She talked about g-diapers and I checked them out. It's a pretty cool concept although I'm not sure how affordable it is.

gDiapers consist of a washable, cotton outer pant and a plastic free flushable refill. They are made of breathable material just like sports clothing. So, babies stay dry and happy and are far less likely to get diaper rash.

Pretty cool concept...and they're pretty cute. (These pictures are of the bum-side.) So I want to hear what all you mom's think...cuz I know that diapers are a huge expense and I figure that these cost much more than regular disposables. I guess it depends on how much of a tree hugger you are. Global warming anyone?

Tybee Island

We took a trip to Savannah for a weekend with some of Brooks' friends from the MBA program.

We stayed at a condo on the beach at Tybee Island. Tybee is about 20 minutes east of Savannah right on the Atlantic.

This is my niece Millie singing the song of all the states in the U.S. It's a song I remember learning when I was probably in 4th grade. Well....Millie is about 3 and a half years old! This is awesome! (don't forget to pause the music player!)

Vacation

Well we finally have internet at home, and it is great! Now we will be able to update our blog regularly, so I suggest you all check back often.

This first picture is of a Bulldog statute. These things are all over the place around Athens, and I have taken it upon myself to find each one and take a picture of it, only 40 more to go.




This next one is the world's only double barrel cannon. This cannon dates back to the civil war, when UGA was used as an armory. They made this cannon, but it didn't work too well. The cannon balls would come out crooked and throw off the trajectory. Anyway the cannon sits just outside of city hall, and just in case you all were wondering it DOES point North. So if any of you Yankees want a piece of us you will have to deal with the cannon.

This is some bell that sits outside of some church downtown. I don't know if there is anything special about it, but I am sure there is. Maybe it's the Liberty Bell's twin brother.

Coming Wednesday

We finally have internet access at home....on Wednesday! We also have a home phone line which will be so nice. Forget about asking for it cuz I'm not giving it out online :)

Also, I started a job today. I am working in the MBA admissions office. It's basically an admin assistant job....making a lot less than you're thinking. It's fine for now. We will have insurance and it's pretty convenient to be at UGA and so close to where Brooks is.

Come Wednesday our site will get some major attention. I'm talking photos, links, music, video... you name it, we've got it! ha ha.

Whats a little humidity?

Lately I've been going on walks "around the block" with my neighbors in the mornings. The block actually comes out to be one mile and we do it twice. It sure feels like more than that...They each have two kids and push strollers and I have Zibby to pull me along. It's probably not such a good idea to go walking around 10:30 am here in GA....lately the weather has been between 80 and 90 degrees (which isn't too bad except...) and over 90% humidity! It's just hot...no, sticky!

Temp jobs...

I've been temping through an agency called Randstad. It's a good thing temp jobs are temp(orary). If you're ever looking for a self esteem boost, go work at a temp agency. Every company I've tempted at thinks I'm awesome when all I really do is type fast, copy fast, and organize filing cabinets fast. Little do they know that I can blog and temp at the same time and still impress them!

The other day I was doing some grocery shopping at Kroger (they are the company that owns Smiths...you probably recognize the brand, but they have their own store out here, its nuts!). I had finished my shopping and was waiting in line to pay when some old (60?) man tried to wedge his cart in front of me. I had put my cart in line and then walked around to the front of a display to check it out...about 2 steps away from my cart. So when I see the sly guy coming I stepped over to my cart to assure my place in line. So there he is with his cart at about a 90 degree angle to the line trying to make it look like he is next. No way buddy! So I'm just standing there staring at him waiting for him to say something like: "oh sorry I didn't see you there" or "oops excuse me" or something! He said nothing and I'm standing there trying to remain calm even though I'm really bugged that he thinks he can scoot in like that. All this time (of about 1 minute) I'm trying to think of something to say to him but for some reason I couldn't come up with a polite thing to say like "oh excuse me sir, I'm in line here." So I just stare at him, and he stares at me. And then finally he says "you weren't in line here were you?" And I manage to get out a somewhat coherant "Yah" with a little attitude. And then you won't believe it! He proceed to argue with me that I was actually "over there" looking at something so I couldn't have been in line! Who argues about that! So while my insides are raging I decided it's not worth arguing about so my reply was "you can just go ahead and go" with lots of attitude and sass. And the old man doesn't even say thank you, he just nods at me as though I just realized that I was wrong! I'm trying to just LET IT GO. He only had a few items anyway. It is finally his turn at the check out and it takes a very long time since he can't find the box of cigarettes that he wants. Finally the find it after all the people in line behind me have stormed off in impatience. The old man breaks out his debit card and takes forever on the machine. Eventually in rings through and as the cashier hands him the receipt she says "you wanted 2 cents cash back?" And the old man says "yes" as though it wasn't weird at all! He chose the optional amount of cash back and entered that he wanted 2 cents! Who does that!!!!!!! What a psycho!

Its been so long!

Well it has taken me forever to get this done, but here it is. School is going great! I only have a few more days till the summer semester is over, in fact finals are next week. I need to get studying! Bonny is having a good time hanging with Zibby and the neighbors. Zibby is the same hyper dog, except now he feels like he can boss us around. Here is a video clip of him getting mad at me for laying on the floor and covering my face.

We saw the Temple, the World of Coke museum, the aquarium, the Olympic park where the bomb went off, and the CNN center, but by the time we decided which one we actually wanted to go into there were lines of at least an hour, so we decided to go back another time. Hard to have a blog with no Internet!

It seems we've taken a near month long leave of absence from posting on our blog. This is because we don't have internet access at home. I (bonny) use the neighbors computer to check my email and Brooks is too lazy to update the blog while he has the computer all day at school. :)

Things are going just fine for us here in Georgia. I must say that I am seriously sick of the bugs! I'm glad I have Brooks and Zibby to kill/catch them all for me. Yesterday I walked outside to water my gardent pots and looked down at my legs and there were 3 mosquitoes feasting away on my sweet blood! I even had repellent on!

We will be back in Utah for a family wedding in August. We are so excited to see everyone!!

I still haven't found a job yet but once that happens we will be sure to get our own internet service and we'll be blogging like crazy! We've got some fun photos and video to share!

Update from Athens

I think we've been here for a month now... Things are going great. Last week we celebrated my birthday. It was kinda funky not being near family for the celebration but things went great anyway. These are some beautiful flowers that Brooks sent me. They are blooming more now and they look gorgeous! On my birthday we went out to dinner. We went to some restaurant called The Last Resort which is supposed to be really great southern food. We got in and sat down and looked at the menu and the food looked really weird to us. So we told our waiter that we were actually going to be leaving. We felt really silly but figured we'd never see him again. It was really funny. I think he was a tad offended but we just walked out of the restaurant and laughed down the street. We ended up eating a little cafe with sandwiches and fries. It was yummy. Brooks surprised me with an awesome bike for my birthday. I have been wanting a cruiser bike forever and he had me so fooled that he didn't know what to get me so he was just going to take me shopping. Instead he gave me this great bike! It's the most comfortable ride ever! I just need to get a basket for the front of it and it will be perfect! Now, if only Zibby were still a puppy I could ride around with my puppy in the basket of my bike. That would be fun. Something funny happened one of the first times I rode my bike. The tires were a little flat so I had my bike-pro neighbor pump up the tires a bit. He has some sweet bike pump that measures tire pressure and everything. So after the tires were pumped I hopped on and rode to the end of the driveway and across the street. I stopped to check something on the front tire and then all of the sudden I heard a sound like a gun shot! I had no clue what happened and could have sworn that someone was shooting a gun at me. Really what happened was my back tire exploded! My ear was ringing for a few hours after that but its all better now. It was actually quite funny because all the neighbors were watching and when they heard the noise they were confused too. The guy asked me if that was my bike that made the noise and by then I had figured out that it was and I told him yes. He felt so bad. It was kinda funny. So that night he went and bought a new tube and fixed my tire. What a funny thing! Thank goodness I was stopped when it blew...or else I probably would have crashed or something.
Brooks also got me this great Georgia jacket from the UGA bookstore. I've been wanting this jacket since the day we got here and I was so happy when he surprised me with it on my birthday. Notice the lovely apartment in the background....? Thats Tiger Woods golfing on TV and don't forget about the Dwight Shrute bobble head doll on the mantle :)

Here are a few other pictures that I've been meaning to get on here. This one is of Brooks on his first day of school - orientation. They had to dress up for orientation. He sure looks sharp!The second picture is Brooks and the famous UGA arch. The arch is the trademark of UGA. Go Dawgs!

This is Nigel (standing) and Ja' (short for Jarillius). They come over every day to take Zibby for a walk. Its great. They love Zibby and I swear Zibby waits by the window all day until they come. It actually works out great because I'm not the one that has to take him out in this heat. Zibby also gets tired real fast and ends up sleeping for about 2 hours after his walk. It's been fun getting to know Ja and Nigel (they are brothers)...they talk with the craziest southern gangster accents and half the time I have to ask them to repeat themselves! ha!

3 Weeks in Athens

Hey everybody! We're still alive. Things are going great here in Georgia. Brooks made it through 2 weeks of orientation and today was his first day of classes. He has 2 classes per day for a few weeks and then 2 new classes per day for another few weeks. I think he is liking his program a lot and he has made lots of great new friends.

I'm still in the market for a job. Athen's isn't an easy place to find work but I'm starting to get a better feel for things. I have a few good prospects right now so lets all hope that something pulls together for us!

Zibby is being a good boy here too. Our neighbors love to play with him and they always knock on our door to see if they can play with him. he is great with the kids. I don't know if he will ever get used to the weather. It's pretty warm for him....go figure. There is a great boy down the street named Jarillius (seirously) who loves to come and walk Zibby and Zibby loves to play with him. Sometimes Ja' comes twice a day and Zibby gets so excited to see him. It's also nice having a dog to help kill some bugs in the house. The other morning I ran into a massive roach in the kitchen and Zibby took care of it. Then he set the dead roach down on the floor and stared at it with such victory. It was great.

Speaking of bugs! This place is the bug hub. There are spiders everywhere and of all varieties....and centipedes, and giant flys, and overgrown wasps.... and other things that I have no idea what they are. Last night I found a long centipede looking bug in our living room...not so harmless considering it had two huge pincher claws on its head. I had Brooks take care of it for me. Later I found out from the neighbors that those things like to sink their pinchers into humans! ahhhh!

So all in all things are great. I planted some garden pots today with zucchini, tomatoes, and cucmbers. I hope they grow well!

Welcome to Georgia - Athens!

Hey everyone! It took us two and a half days but we made it! We took a Penske moving truck and our car. Brooks' dad joined us on our trip and we all took turns driving different vehicles. Zibby rode in the back of the car and was no trouble at all! He pretty much slept most of the trip and now he really likes riding in the car! 7:00 am Richard (Brooks' dad) stops to save the dragon. In the fields in Salem there is an old tractor thing that is painted like a dragon and has a sign hanging on it that says 'save the dragon.' This was the first time that we lost Richard behind us....he had to stop for the dragon I guess.

7:45 am Took the car to Auto Zone to find out why the light came on. Turns out it was just an o2 sensor and we are fine to keep driving and get it fixed when we get to Georgia. What a relief!

We made it! here are some photos of our new place...





















So we're doing great! We're trying to get to know the place as much as possible. Athens is beautiful and the campus is especially beautiful. Here are some pics of the campus. This first one is the building where the college of business is located. Its funny because the building is called Brooks Hall.....go figure.

This stadium is something like the 5th largest on campus football stadium in the nation and holds around 86,000 people. Go Bulldogs!















We had some true southern food the other day at a place called Weaver D's. If you know much about the band R.E.M. maybe you've heard a song about this place. The sign outside said: Weaver D's - Automatic for the People. It was a dive of a place but the food was great. You choose your main dish of meat - fried pork chop, steak n gravy, fried chicken dark or white.... and then you choose 2 sides. When the lady listed off the side dishes to me I had no idea what she was saying so I chose the two things that I understood....mac and cheese & buttered potatoes. Later we discovered the other sides: sweet potato soufflé, broccoli casserole, green beans, potato salad.....etc. Everything was soaked in butter and delicious! We also got a dish of peach cobbler with the meal and when the big guy brought it to our table he put the cobblers down and said "automatic for the people." We all just looked at each other wondering what exactly that meant. It was great. We are really excited to try some other southern foods!

Thats about it for Georgia so far. We miss everyone and everything but we're having a great time in a new place. Here are some other photos that we have been wanting to share with everyone: (mostly pictures of Zibby and how cute we think he is :) )
This is a picture of Zibby on the couch looking out the window at our new place. He loves that he can see out the window and he sits like this on the couch all the time. We think it is really cute. When he hears the neighbor kids outside he has to jump up on the couch and see them. He especially loves to go out and play with them. We also found a dog park just down the road that he loves to play at. He usually ends up taunting the other dogs to get them to chase him and the other dogs usually give up cuz Zibby never gets tired of running. We love the dog park.



This is another great one of Zibby back in Utah. I was taking a nap on the couch and he had to join me. It was adorable when he climbed right up behind me and threw his arm around my stomach.









Zibby was such a good boy on the trip. We were so proud of him.

Hey everyone! Well in case you all didn't hear the news Brooks got accepted to the University of Georgia. We are both really excited and scared at the same time. The school is located in Athens Georgia, which is just over 1900 miles from Salt Lake. We start our cross country tour on Suday the 20th. Brooks will be working towards his MBA, and will be graduating in one year.
